Melacca The Historic State

Present-day Melaka reflects its tumultuous history - a multi-racial population of Malays, Indians, and Chinese call this historic city home. Most notably, Peranakan and Portuguese communities still thrive in Melaka, a reminder of the state's long experience with trading and colonization.

Melaka's founder, the ex-pirate Prince Parameswara, was said to be a descendant of Alexander the Great, but it's more likely that he was a Hindu political refugee from Sumatra.

According to legend, the Prince was resting one day under an Indian gooseberry tree (also known as a melaka). As he watched one of his hunting dogs trying to bring down a mouse deer, it occurred to him that the deer shared a similar plight to his own: alone, exiled in a foreign land and surrounded by enemies. The mouse deer then achieved the improbable and fought off the dog.

Parameswara decided that the place where he was sitting was a propitious one for the disadvantaged to triumph, so decided to build a house on the spot.

Malacca did indeed turn out to be a favorable place to found a town, due to its sheltered harbor, its abundant water supply and its prime location relative to the regional trade and monsoon wind patterns.

Jonker Steert! :)

Next destination of the day is the "Jonker Street'. Jonker Street, the centre street of Chinatown (Address: Jalan Hang Jebat, Melacca) is very near to the Christ Church where u can just walk for 10 minutes and you will reach the Jonker Sreet! – was once renowned for its antique shops. Around 11:30 we reached there. However over the years it has turned to clothing and crafts outlets as well as restaurants.

The best part of Jonker Street is the night market on Fridays and Saturdays that sells everything from tasty treats to cheap keepsakes. I had a great time there as I did my shopping there and the things there are cheap where u cant get that cheap price elsewhere! The shops were all consist of old buildings and have some traditional structures on it. Here, they sell various kind of things such as clothes, foods, key chains, bags, accessories, shoes and many more in cheaper prices! :D

A definite haven for antique collectors and bargain hunters. Authentic artifacts and relics, some dating as far back as 300 years, can be found among a host of interesting collectibles, each with its own history and mystery.

Jalan Hang Jebat, formerly known as Jonker Street, is known worldwide among serious antique collectors as one of the best places to hunt and bargain for antiques.

These "Hand Fan" are a very common thing that people like to buy in Melacca because the weather is very hot. It comes from different kind of clours and textures. Some are using the 'Batik" pattern and colour while some are normal cotton cloth just like in the picture above.

Along the street there were lots of small stalls selling souvenir, clothes, bags, shoes, glasses, key chains, hats and many more for tourists to buy it at a cheaper price :)

These kind of shoes are also very famous in Melacca as it is made of a kind of wood and its good for the health when u wear it. They are cheap and yet very creative in it's different kind of designs.

Look at those ships, aren't they look cute? Well this ships used to land here at the Melacca sea for selling foods, materials and many more, These ship looks really amazing in real and the design is mind blowing! :D

As we were walking along the street, before reaching the Jonker Walk I eventually found the Melaka River again! This time I get to see it during the day time. The river is always amaze no matter during the day or night.

This statue was found in the Jonker Walk! It was huge and unique! This statue is made for the "Father Of Bodybuilders In Malaysia". One of them are Datuk Wira Dr. Gan Boon Leong who came from Melacca.

This unique elephant statue was also founded in the Jonker Walk.

While walking, I saw this huge Hard Rock Cafe guitar and it was so cool! On the guitar, there are many paintings and designs which made it looks nice and attractive to others.

This big structure was located in the middle of around about. It looks really cool and each of the logo's on it shows many meaningful beliefs in Chinese cultures. One of the logo are ships, dragon, gong, old unique Chinese writing vase. Chinese are the ones that is brilliant for making good business and also to make money in just a small period time.

So, after walking around the Jonker Street, I and my friends finally gone to get some food for lunch by 1:00 P.M.

This was the restaurant we ate in. It was cooling and the  food was delicious! They had a lot types of food such as Asian and Western food. The price is not too cheap and not too expensive. For example, pasta, fried rice, chips, cendol and many more. I tried "Melaka Vanilla" as my meal and it was superb. one of the ingredients was "gula melaka" (a kind of brown sugar) which was sweet and feeling.
